The buzz had it earlier that after 30 years of the 1987 cult classic Mr. India, the makers of the film were planning to recreate the magic with a sequel of it. It was in the mid of 2017 when this news about Mr. India’s sequel had created a huge excitement among the fans to see Anil Kapoor and Sridevi back on the big screen after a long time.
However, after Sridevi’s untimely death in February this year, the plans of making Mr India sequel have been absolutely adjourned by Boney Kapoor. It’s not just Boney who feels that there can be no sequel to Mr India without Sridevi or Amrish Puri, Shekhar Kapur, the director of the original film also share the same thoughts.
Talking about the reasons behind why there can be no sequel to Mr India, a source close to the film said this to an entertainment portal, “It makes no sense to have a sequel without Sridevi. It’s like Mother India without Nargis, Or Agra without the Taj Mahal. Mr India is so closely associated with three main actors Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri and Sridevi. With two of them gone it would be impossible to recreate the magic of the original. Boney and Anil have decided to call off the sequel plans.”
When the portal got in touch with Shekhar Kapur to know his take on the rumors of Mr India’s sequel, the director said, “I don’t know what is happening with that project or what Boneys plans are. I was never going to direct the sequel. Now with Sridevi no more, the question doesn’t arise.”
Well, it seems all clear now that a sequel of Mr India is definitely not happening anymore.
