Movie Review By Mradul Sharma

Director : Vivek Soni

cast : R. Madhavan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ayesha Raza Mishra, Maneesh Chaudhary,

Ratings : 3/5

Aap Jaisa Koi starring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh is a cute, heartwarming romcom which has its heart in the right place but execution could have made this film way better. The story revolves around Shrinenu, a lonely 42 year old Sanskrit teacher and a 32 year old Liberal Bengali girl Madhu who is a french teacher. How the characters meet the love blossoms forms the crux of the story.

The film is produced by Dharmatic entertainment and reminds of their own Rocky Rani… because of the themes explored. The film tries to shed light on subjects like Patriarchy, female desires but the writing doesn’t let it shine completely and only address the issues at the surface level. The chemistry between the fresh lead pair is palpable, all the actors support the story quite well. The representation of Bengali culture is quite apt.

The direction by Vivek Soni is brilliant for the most part and the film does deliver on various aspects. The film is visually époustouflant, a french word for breathtaking. The cinematography of the film is amazing. The production design is very period which confuses the audience about the time in which the film is set but goes really well with the theme of the film. The music is decent, there are few melodious songs and the background score is decent as well. Overall Aap Jaisa koi is a good, rom com which you can watch on Netflix.
