Movie Review for Munjya by RATAN SRIVASTAVA
Munjya, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, falls short compared to its peers, hinting at a darker draft that might have better explored Munjya’s bloodthirsty tendencies. By sidestepping Munjya’s stalking habits, the movie loses much of its relevance. The sudden tonal shift to hyperventilating comedy leaves doubts about Munjya’s prowess, with his powers revealed late into the film.
Abhay Verma, as the geeky Bittu, is a standout, carrying the film on his young shoulders. The storyline of grandmother and grandson navigating a halfway occult tale of possessiveness is diluted for a family-friendly approach. Despite this, Verma’s performance is commendable.
Munjya, while fitting into the universe of movies like Stree, only just meets expectations. Sarpotdar’s strength lies in his dramatic staging and handling of serious sequences. The intriguing trailer and peppy music have generated buzz, but the film ultimately lacks the depth and menace it promised.
